On the 6th September 2023, eight TRBUG riders set out from Maclagan this morning to ride a circuit using both the Muntapa Tunnel side route and the Rangemore Road section of the Downs Burnett Cycle Trail from Cooyar. The 37km of gravel roads had zero traffic, apart from a tractor moving from one paddock to the next.

The tunnel is on the old rail corridor between Oakey and Cooyar. Now it provides home to native bats set in some lovely forested countryside with an attractive picnic area. The riders enjoyed coffee and refreshments at Cooyar Hotel where publican Kasey was happy to allow riders to give ebike batteries a top up.

From Cooyar the riders followed the DBCT for the next 25km which proved to be exceptionally scenic. This is a enjoyable one day circuit linking two elements of the DBCT.
