Yarraman to Cooyar – two route options

Route 1

All weather signposted route from the Yarraman Town Centre. From Yarraman Town Centre head along the New England Highway for approximately 4km before turning left onto Holmes Road. This 36km ride will quickly leave the highway behind and traffic will be minimal. The road surface is a combination of bitumen and gravel, with a great downhill glide at around the 5km mark. As with other sections on this route, there are no towns until you reach Cooyar, so plan accordingly. Mobile reception is generally okay, however, it can be a little patchy in the backcountry around the Cooyar Mt Binga Road turnoff.

Route 2

Dry weather only route, not signposted. From Yarraman Caravan Park head back along the singletrack beside the highway into the State Forest. Use your GPS navigation map to ride the Ridge Road (not signed)  through the State Forest. Be aware that this red soil road becomes impassable when wet. When dry, it is a wonderful, heavily timbered scenic route. This forestry road will junction with the Maidenwell Upper Yarraman gravel road where it exits the forest. This gravel road is part of the clockwise route of the DBCT. From here you follow the clockwise mapped DBCT route in the reverse direction back to Cooyar. This is a shorter route, 30km, with less climbing, a fantastic long downhill run, and no highway riding.
